VOLUNTEER CENTER CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Connect people with opportunities to serve
  • Build capacity for effective local volunteering
  • Promote and recognize volunteers
  • Participate in strategic initiatives

CENTER PROGRAMS:

  • Volunteer Opportunities United Way's Volunteer Center can quickly link you to opportunities in our community. Learn about upcoming projects, volunteer needs and opportunities that fit your interests and schedule.
  • Workplace Volunteering helps companies understand how they can help the community. United Way's Volunteer Center works with companies to start workplace volunteer programs or enhance their current community involvement. Projects like Day of Caring provide fun, easy ways for a company to lend a hand.
  • Student Service Learning is our dynamic youth program that provides students with monthly volunteer update emails, service learning, philanthropic opportunities, class room campaigns, fun group projects, and a recognition program in the schools called Michigan Student Service Award.
  • Day of Caring is the largest day of service in Ottawa County. Over 500 volunteers come together to get things done. Together we build ramps, clean up parks, read with kids, deliver meals to seniors and much more.
  • Mentoring is a priority for the Volunteer Center. We work with the Ottawa County Mentoring Collaborative to help connect kids with caring adults.
  • Recognition Each year United Way's Volunteer Center conducts a special recognition program, Volunteer Stars, to bring attention to the good work of volunteers in our community. The Red Ribbon Campaign, done every year during the third week in April, enables area agencies to thank their volunteers as well.

You must be the change you wish to see in the world. -Mahatma Gandhi

What Matters

Projects Needed for Day of Caring, September 18
Is there a house in your neighborhood whose owners are unable, due to age or infirmity, to keep up the maintenance? Do you drive by an overgrown lot that needs to be tamed into a play area for local kids? These are only some of the tasks that hundreds of Ottawa County volunteers are ready to help with during the ninth annual county-wide Day of Caring on Thursday, September 18.

Greater Ottawa County United Way's Campaign a Success
Greater Ottawa County United Way has officially completed its annual campaign, and Thursday night announced campaign results and honored outstanding volunteers at its annual Celebration Dinner. One of the highlights of the event, held at Spring Lake Country Club, was the announcement of a successful campaign raising $2,109,939. Also among the evenings celebrations were accolades given to volunteers and organizations recognizing them for their leadership efforts during the 2007-08campaign and participation in volunteer activities throughout the year.
