Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

EQUITY

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION STATEMENT

Everyone deserves to live in a society where they feel safe, respected and protected, where they can reach their full human potential. We can and must do better as a community, as a nation. United Way is built on the concept that we all have a role to play in creating a more equitable future.

We recognize structural racism and other forms of oppression have contributed to persistent disparities which United Way seeks to dismantle.

At United Way, we believe achieving real diversity, equity and inclusion requires society to unite and commit to system change. We choose to build an inclusive and equitable region where ALL people have the resources and opportunities needed to thrive.

We respect, value and celebrate the unique attributes, characteristics and perspectives that make each person who they are.  We believe bringing diverse individuals together, where all voices are heard, provides a more effective way to address the disparities within our community.

ANTI-RACISM AND ETHNIC DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

We unequivocally denounce racism/ethnic discrimination because it undermines the well-being and vitality of our communities.

Our United Way network strives to engage community members, especially those whose voices have traditionally been marginalized.

We work with residents and public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, supports, opportunities and networks they need to thrive.

We commit to leveraging all of our assets (convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities.
