United Way Welcomes Melissa Kamara Liggins to Its Board of Directors

Greater Ottawa County United Way would like to announce the addition of Melissa Kamara Liggins to its Board of Directors. Melissa is the director of public and community relations for Spectrum Health, a not-for-profit, integrated health system based in Grand Rapids.

Melissa’s career began in Chicago where she provided public relations consulting and project management to Fortune 500 clients. She has been in health care communications since 2001 when she joined Zeeland Community Hospital. Melissa’s responsibilities steadily increased over the next decade in her roles as hospital spokesperson, public relations lead and community relations manager. She successfully led strategic communications during a critical period when Zeeland Community Hospital merged with Spectrum Health in 2011. Melissa was then recruited to Spectrum Health corporate communications in 2012. Melissa has a heart for community and is proud of the work Spectrum Health is doing to foster health in local communities.

Melissa is a West Michigan native and earned her bachelor’s degree from Calvin College. She and her husband, Jimmie, are the parents of a seven-year-old daughter, and two-year-old son.
